True Minimalism

I’m making some life changes that have got me to thinking again about minimalism. First, I’m no stranger to the concept and the lifestyle. I blogged on the topic for five years at the all-but-dead blog, Hip Diggs. My experience blogging about minimalism led me to being one of its critics, but not because I don’t live simply. I do.

A few months ago, I decided that my digital presence was too much. I had more than half a dozen social media and I was operating four blogs. So, I made the decision to do some massive deletes. I shut down more than half of my social media accounts. My four old blogs are all going to go dark as the domains expire. I said enough is enough.

Beginning around 2013, I jumped on the minimalist bandwagon. I’d found my passion and my blogging niche. My goal was to spread the word about the minimalist lifestyle. And for the first couple of years, I felt good about what I was doing. Keep in mind, I’d been living simply most of my life, living in trailers and studio apartments through most of my 20s and 30s. I’ve only lived in larger spaces in my 40s and 50s for the sake of family.

I don’t want to rain on the minimalist parade, but in my five years of blogging about minimalism, (2014–2019), I noted a few things that turned me off about the industry. And yes, it’s become its own industry.
